Jeddah, (IINA) - The Saudi Health Council has announced that it is working to establish an electronic system to prevent manipulation of sick leave holidays, Arab News reported.
Dr. Yaqoob Al-Mazrouh, secretary-general of the council, did not elaborate on how the new system will work to stop doctors from issuing unwarranted sick leave slips.
“Transparency should be the basis of our work, and we will take all measures to end corrupt practices”, said Al-Mazrouh.
Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has in the past issued a fatwa declaring the issuing and receiving of fraudulent medical sick leave certificates as sinful behavior. “Medical professionals who issue the certificates and workers requesting them are sinners”, said the ruling. “These bogus reports result in businesses losing money”.
The fatwa had come in response to the request of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) for an opinion from the grand mufti on the issue.
