OIC chief Iyad Madani

Jeddah (IINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed its regret over the UN special envoy's suspension of the intra-Syrian negotiations that aimed at ending the Syria crisis.
UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on Wednesday suspended the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva, setting February 25 for the next session.
OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani invited all Syrian parties to place the interests of the Syrian people above all other considerations, to reach an agreement that would stop the bloodshed, ensure the security and unity of Syria and save it from external intervention, based on Vienna agreements, Geneva Communiqué of 2012 and Security Council resolution no 2254.
Madani has indicated that the OIC is looking forward to the adoption of practical proposals by the members of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG), which will meet in Munich on February 11, to push forward the negotiations process and to resolve the humanitarian issues as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General voiced concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Syria and the continued loss of life and property. He noted to the high-level participation of donor countries, especially the OIC member states, international institutions and bodies, civil society institutions and private companies, in the international donor conference for Syria, held Thursday in London, to consider means to provide funding for immediate needs and humanitarian assistance to the victims of the Syrian crisis.
