Rome, (IINA) - The State of Kuwait has called for an international comprehensive and realistic strategy, which takes into considerations multi-faceted dimensions of the region, to eliminate ISIS and terrorism, WAM reported.
Addressing a meeting of the international coalition fighting ISIS, Deputy Premier and Defense Minister Sheikh Khaled Jarrah Al-Sabah said that he regretted the fact that the meeting was taking place as "the spate of terrorism is on the rise" in the region.
He said that UN Security Council Resolution 2253 declared the responsibility of every country to prevent and eliminate all forms of terrorism, which posed a genuine threat to international peace and security. "The escalation of terrorism and its impact on the region reaffirms the importance of having a comprehensive strategy to eliminate it", said Al-Sabah.
He added that this strategy should take into consideration the political, economic, social, religious, and media realities of the region. The strategy should not be excluded to the military and security aspects because of the proliferation of social media.
Therefore, he said, it was important to involve youths in the decision-making process to benefit from their positive energies.
The minister said that Kuwait has amended some legislation to tighten the grip on terrorist groups, to dry up terrorism financing, to stop foreign fighters from travelling to conflict zones, and to confront cyber-attacks.
He also stressed that it was crucially important not to link terrorism and extremism with a faith, sect or ethnicity.
