Indonesia issues travel advisory over Zika virus

Jakarta, (IINA) - Indonesia's Health Ministry has issued a travel warning late Wednesday for eight countries hit by the Zika virus, as well as 22 others with an "active transmissions" status, including nearby Thailand, Jakarta Globe reported.
Indonesians are advised to avoid traveling to Brazil, Cape Verde, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Martinique, Panama, and Suriname.
The ministry also recommended citizens against entering Barbados, Bolivia, Curacao, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Fiji, French Guiana, Guadalope, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Mexico, New Caledonia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Saint Martin, Samoa, Tonga, Thailand, the US Virgin Islands and Venezuela.
"Pregnant women mainly are advised not to travel to these countries. If traveling can't be avoided, they should take strict preventive measures against mosquito bites", Minister Nila Moeloek said in a statement.
The minister also called on every citizen who have already traveled to the countries listed to keep a close eye on their health in the 14 days following their return to Indonesia.
"The public should immediately check with doctors if they experience symptoms of fever, rashes, muscle pains, headache and red eyes. And don't forget to mention travel history".
The ministry said it would increase alertness at all health offices at airports and ports across Indonesia.
