Lagos (IINA) – A joint operation of Nigerian and Cameroonian forces in the Kirawa junction of northeastern Nigeria's Borno state on Monday rescued 112 captives held by Boko Haram militants, Anadolu Agency reported.
Nigerian army spokesman Sani Usman said in a statement on Monday that the captives included eight men, 36 women and 68 children. He described the rescue as a fruit of an ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and neighbors in the anti-Boko Haram fight.
"The cooperation with our neighbors has brought renewed vigor and is yielding fruitful result in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists," the statement said.
However, Usman said that a Cameroonian officer died from an injury he sustained when his unit's vehicle ran over an explosive device planted along the Pulka-Ngoshe road in the region. He added that eight other Cameroonian troops were also injured in the incident.
