OIC chief Iyad Madani

Jeddah (IINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani appreciated the transitional authorities in the Central African Republic (CAR) for the smooth conduct of presidential and parliamentary elections held on December 30.
Madani congratulated Head of State in the Transitional Government Catherine Samba-Panza, Prime Minister Mahamat Kamoun and all the interim government members who worked actively to conduct the elections in a peaceful and calm atmosphere throughout CAR territories.
He also congratulated the people of CAR and commended the voters for the maturity they have shown on the Election Day, which will end the transitional period in the country.
The secretary general called on all CAR citizens to work for national reconciliation to enable the country to focus on socio-economic development.
Madani further commended the civil society and the defense and security forces for the crucial role they played, and the international community for its support to CAR. He urged all the country’s influential parties to demonstrate solidarity, avoid violence and follow legal means in the settlement of any election disputes. He also called on them to accept the results of the poll in order to preserve peace and stability in the country.
The Secretary General reiterated the OIC’s constant support to CAR for the achievement of stability, socio-economic development and national reconciliation.
It is worth mentioning that the OIC dispatched an expert mission to observe the elections in the Central African Republic.
