Cairo, (IINA) - At least nine people, including six police officers, were killed and ten others injured in a bomb explosion in Egypt's pyramid city of Giza.
An Egyptian official said that a bomb has gone off on Thursday during a raid on a home, where militants were preparing explosives in an apartment in the suburb of Giza, the Daily Mail  news agencies reported.
he Interior Ministry said in a statement that the building was booby-trapped, and the device went off when they tried to defuse it. The Egyptian police were questioning residents and searching apartments at more than 5,000 homes in central Cairo as a "precautionary measure" to prevent street protests on the upcoming anniversary of the January 25 Arab Spring uprising, AP reported citing security officials.
The ten-day search campaign was based on surveillance and intelligence gathered over months and focusing on young, pro-democracy activists inside and outside the country, including foreigners, one of the senior officials said.
The interior ministry blamed the blast on the blacklisted ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ movement of ousted President Mohammed Morsi.
'Police had information that a group of Muslim Brotherhood members were preparing to carry out aggressive acts in the coming days using explosives and crude bombs', the ministry said on its Facebook page.
'This group was using an apartment in a Cairo building, and on Thursday night, the police raided this apartment where they found a number of crude bombs. When the bomb squad expert was dealing with one of the bombs, it exploded, the ministry claimed.
