Pennsylvania, (IINA) - About 20 men met at the Al-Nur Mosque in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, to pray for the victims and the families of San Bernardino attacks, and to condemn violent acts by extremists, Tribune Live News reported.
A group of women met separately in a part of the mosque. Muslims who gathered in Wilkinsburg on Saturday said they are just appalled as other Americans by ISIS inspired shootings that killed 14 people in San Bernardino, Calif., this month.
“We are also hurt and grieved and feel the pain and suffering of this horrific attack,” Imam Adnan Ahmed said. “Let's get together on something that is common between us. That's the American way, and that's the way to move forward.”
“We're part of this nation,” said Omar Shaheed, a Vietnam War veteran who is president of the Pittsburgh community. “Prayer is our weapon. We practice prayer, and we promote peace.”
The group's slogan, “Love for all, hatred for none,” is printed on a green awning hanging over the front door of the four-story stone-and-brick mosque.
The 40-minute event opened with a prayer and reading from the Qur’an. The audience included mostly members of the mosque but also a few visitors and a Wilkinsburg police officer.
“Our neighbors, friends and local officials have come up to us and said, ‘We know Islam never would condone this because we know you,' ” Dr. Sohail Husain said before the event. “It's heartening to see the solidarity that has come out of this tragedy.”
