Ankara (IINA) – The First Expert Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Network on Population and Reproductive, Maternal, New-born and Child Health (OIC MHNet) was held in the Turkish capital Ankara on December 2-4.
The meeting was organized jointly by the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), and the Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for the Arab States  at SESRIC headquarters in Ankara, in line with the decision of the 4th Islamic Conference of Health Ministers held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in October 2013.

The meeting is the first step in the establishment of the OIC Network, which will serve as a deposit of innovative ideas, problem solving and best practices as well as being a platform for the dissemination of knowledge among the OIC countries.
Members of the Network engaged in joint activities and discussions, and shared innovative ideas, best practices and viable means of addressing challenges to improve the health of mothers and children in OIC member states.
The meeting included presentations on different reproductive, maternal, new-born and child health aspects, against the backdrop of the OIC Strategic Program of Action 2013-2014 (OIC SHPA) and new global post-2015 development framework.
The meeting also hosted roundtable discussions on contemporary issues on population dynamic and demographic dividend, maternal and new-born health, with a view to define the substantive research agenda of the Network.
