Washington (IINA) – Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said the historical visit of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to Washington and his meeting with US President Barack Obama on Friday comes within the framework of the distinctive and strong relations between the two countries, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
In statements to reporters here on Thursday, Al-Jubeir said the visit will focus on the strategic relations with the U.S. and the ways to move them to a new horizon to serve the interests of the peoples of the two countries as well as the security and stability in the region.
With regard to Yemen, the minister said both countries share the same strategic goal, which is the implementation of the Security Council resolution 2216 fully and without conditions. He stressed that they were trying to reach this through diplomatic channels or political work, but, he noted, it is in the hands of the Houthis and Saleh who refuse the decision, and continue their military operations in an attempt to occupy more Yemeni towns and villages.
"But, Thankfully, the coalition forces and the legitimate government have been able to respond to these moves, and achieved very important victories in different parts of Yemen, which led to a decline in the position of the Houthis and Saleh, and we hope - Allah willing - that this will pave the way to finding a political solution," Al-Jubeir added.
