Turkmenistan, WB cooperate to develop energy, transport, environmental protection

Ashgabat, (IINA) - The government of Turkmenistan stated on Monday that the country and the World Bank (WB) are interested in cooperating to develop the sectors of energy, transport, and environmental protection in the country, Trend News Agency reported.
According to the statement, the negotiations were held at the foreign ministry with a WB delegation headed by its Regional Director for Central Asia, Saroj Kumar Jha.
The two parties discussed further interaction by extending the joint legal framework as well as preparation work on a new strategy for the partnership between Turkmenistan and the WB.
The WB Regional Director stressed the importance of strengthening the regional cooperation potential, saying that the WB Group is ready to fully support Turkmenistan’s initiatives in different directions.
According to British Petroleum’s (BP) report, Turkmenistan’s gas reserves rank fourth in the world.
At present, the country is able to export gas to China and Iran while the project of transporting Turkmen gas to Europe is under consideration. In addition, the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline started in December 2015.
