Jakarta (IINA) – At the conclusion of the 2nd International Conference on Jerusalem in Jakarta on Tuesday, Permanent Observer of Palestine to the UN Riyad Mansour called on the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which have ties with Israel, to take punitive measures against the Israeli officials who have committed war crimes against the Palestinian people, similar to what was done by other countries, such as South Africa.
Mansour said that the OIC countries and the international community are required to exceed mentioning the decisions that emphasize the rights of the Palestinian people in the UN and various international organizations, and work, instead, to take practical measures on the ground to curb Israel’s encroachment on the Palestinian rights, including enactment of domestic and international laws to prosecute those responsible for committing crimes. He also stressed the need for the international community to provide protection for the Palestinian people by translating the decisions, which were issued more than once in the UN General Assembly and other UN forums, into practical and binding reality.
Wrapping up its work, the two-day conference attempted to assert that the Palestinian issue is not a religious one, but rather a political, in which the Palestinian people are subject to oppressive practices by Israel – the occupying Power – in addition to the systematic actions and steps aimed at the displacement of the Palestinians and keeping them away from their land, and obliterating their legitimate rights. These measures are clearly manifested in the occupied city of Jerusalem that formed the major theme of this conference, and which its residents and Islamic and Christian holy sites are suffering from such arbitrary actions.
In turn, Indonesia Deputy Foreign Minister Hasan Kleib called for the return of the Palestinian question to the forefront of the international community's concerns through focusing on the issue in various international forums and through media outlets. He added that the international community should move in this direction.
