Qatar Development Fund, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation sign agreement to fight disease, poverty

New York (IINA) – Qatar Development Fund and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation signed here a framework agreement to develop innovative and effective means to fight disease and extreme poverty in the Arab and Muslim world and over the world, and exchange of experiences in development action, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The agreement was signed by Qatar's Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah and Bill Gates co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The signing of the agreement comes as part of the first cooperation in the field of development between the two institutions, agreed upon in January 2015 through the co-financing of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
General Director of the Qatar Development Fund Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Kuwari said this agreement will contribute to expanding Qatar's foreign assistance in the health sector, and providing innovative and effective solutions in the field of development and the fight against disease and poverty in the Arab countries, the Islamic world and the world as a whole."
For his part, head of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Middle East relations Hassan Al-Damluji said that the State of Qatar is a major donor over many years and has contributed to the development efforts in many countries all over the world.
As the fight against disease and poverty requires the establishment of a strong international partnerships, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is delighted to partner with Qatar Development Fund for the planning and financing of projects that will improve the health and economic conditions of poor people, he added.
Qatar Development Fund is a public organization that contributes to the capital of financial development institutions and other international and foreign institutions that aim at helping developing countries to develop their economies and it represents the State of Qatar in such institutions.
