Ancient gold coins unearthed in Gaza

Gaza City (IINA) – A chest full of Ottoman-era gold coins discovered on Monday during construction work in the neighborhood of Shujaiyeh, in the Gaza City.
The Turkish coins, a serious archaeological find, was uncovered by construction workers paving a road in the neighborhood of Shujaiyeh.
Dr Nihad Mughani, Director General for Engineering and Planning at Municipality of Gaza, said in a press statement that the coins and other archaeological objects, which were dug up accidentally in Shujaiyeh neighborhood, date back to the Ottoman era. He explained that the Gaza City municipality announced a halt to all construction work in the neighborhood until an archaeologist could properly inspect the scene.
