Geneva, (IINA) - The Sudanese National Group for Human Rights has organized a gathering in front of the Geneva-based Human Rights Council to protest the economic sanctions imposed on Sudan, SUNA reported.
Maha Abdulal, a member of the group, said that the protests witnessed wide participation, which ranged from representatives, Sudanese activists and the civil society organizations.
She pointed out that the protest was in order to send a message to the UN and to make the Council understand the negative effects of the economic sanctions imposed on the Sudanese people. The protest was also to emphasize the necessity for stopping the unilateral measures, she said.
Abdulal noted that the Sudanese group that participated in the 30th session of the Human Rights Council urged the Council to work on lifting the unilateral sanctions imposed on Sudan, affirming that the encouragement of the civil society organizations to the societal national dialogue is necessary to reach a full consensus leading to a comprehensive peace.
