Malé, (IINA) - Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Abdul Bagir, minister of Islamic Affairs of Maldives, announced on Wednesday that an international symposium on moderation in Islam will be held in Malé on November 2, Haveeru Online News Agency reported.
Several international Islamic scholars are expected to attend the one-day event, which will be organized jointly by Maldives Islamic affairs ministry and the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia.
Titled “Moderation in Qur’an and Sunnah”, the symposium will focus on how modern day Maldives and Saudi Arabia can act upon the decreed moderation and resist extremism. According to Bagir, the symposium will be held at the Islamic centre conference hall, where scholars will debate on 13 topics. Papers on seven topics are to be presented by local Islamic scholars, while the other six will be from Saudi Arabian scholars.
The scholars from Saudi Arabia include academics from the Islamic University of Madinah.
