Jordanian King, Tunisian president discuss bilateral cooperation, Mideast issues

Amman, (IINA) - Jordanian King Abdullah on Tuesday received here, President of Tunisia Beji Caid Essebsi who is in an official visit to the Kingdom for two-day at the invitation of the King.
During the meeting, both leaders noted that they are keen to cement cooperation between their countries in various political, economic, military and security fields, Petra reported.
The two leaders during their talks called for further coordination and consultation to serve common interests of the two countries and their peoples.
In addition, the King and the Tunisian president called also for promoting economic cooperation, through the two countries' joint higher committee, which will convene soon, especially in the fields of information technology, energy, health, education and tourism, stressing the importance of exchanging visits between businessmen in both countries to explore investment opportunities.
Regarding the situation in Palestine, the talks dealt with the dangerous Israeli escalations in the West Bank and the Al Haram Al Sharif in addition  to the latest developments in Syria.
With regard to extremism and terrorism, the talks emphasized the importance of intensifying cooperation and efforts, regionally and internationally, to fight terror and extremism within a holistic strategy.
For his part, King Abdullah noted that his country and Tunisia are facing common challenges, particularly economic, and specifically the fight against poverty and unemployment, in addition to dealing with the refugee problem in both countries.
Also, the King congratulated president Essebsi on the international appreciation and recognition Tunisia's democratic experience has won, through awarding the Nobel Prize for peace for the Tunisian national dialogue quartet.
From his side, President Essebsi thanked the King for his kind invitation to visit Jordan, expressing his country's appreciation of Jordan's role in the addressing different challenges, regionally and internationally.
The president also Essebsi highlighted Tunisia's reform process and spoke about a refugee influx from unrest-hit neighboring Libya.
On the other side, the King and the Tunisian President oversaw the signing of cooperation agreements in the fields of civil protection, civil defense, security, and military.
King Abdullah bestowed on the Tunisian President the Supreme Order of the Renaissance (Wisam al-Nahda), in recognition of his role in strengthening the fraternal ties and excellent relations between the two brotherly countries.
Senior officials from both countries attended the talks.
