New York (IINA) – The Arab Group in the United Nations emphasized the importance of boosting the efficiency of the UN Security Council through mobilizing efforts to promote and activate its role to cope with the rapid developments on the international arena, KUNA reported.
This came in a statement addressed by Abdulaziz Saud Al-Jarallah, the acting charge d’affaires of the State of Kuwait’s permanent mission at the UN, who spoke on behalf of the group, during a Council session about its mechanisms and working methods.
Al-Jarallah stressed on the importance of increasing the open sessions of the Security Council for all member states, and granting a broader role for concerned states in decision making on matters that concern these states.
The Kuwait diplomat noted that the numbers of in-camera sessions and rounds of informal consultations should be decreased and the member countries should be involved in matters that concern them, in accordance with the Article 31 of the UN Charter.
He also reiterated the Arab Group's support for the stance of the Non-Aligned Movement on updating the UN Security Council's mechanisms, working methods and procedures.
