London, (IINA) - A video has emerged on social media showing a man hurling racist and Islamophobic comments at an elderly man on a bus in North London, according to media reports.
Uploaded on YouTube by the Documenting Oppression Against Muslims (DOAM) organization, the man can be seen yelling at the Turkish gentleman before grabbing his walking aid and throwing it out of the bus.
The video was shared widely on social media on Sunday evening and had been viewed more than 40,000 times in 24 hours.
The three-minute video shows the elderly Muslim man, thought to be of Turkish origin, being attacked by a man who threw his walking frame off a bus travelling to Tottenham in North London, England.
Shouting “go back to your own country”, the assailant made offensive references to the man's family and religion.
The man said: “You’re talking in a different language, but nobody knows what you’re saying.
“Go back to Turkey. Oh no, you can’t. That’s why you’re here, mate, free benefits and a walker. Well your walker is going to go flying when this bus stops mate.”
“This video footage, which includes racist and Islamophobic abuse, has been brought to the attention of the Metropolitan police,” The Met police said in a statement cited by Press Association on Monday.
“The incident is believed to have occurred on Saturday, and understood to have been directed at an individual by the suspect in the footage.”
After the attack, the police urged witnesses to share information about the Islamophobic incident. “Detectives are working to establish precisely when and where the footage was taken,” police added.
Later on, after vile video footage emerged the 25-year-old man has handed himself in to police.
The racist incident came a few days after a British woman hurled racial abuse at a Muslim group on a London bus last week. The woman, who has been detained by police, is facing charges of a racially aggravated public order offence.
Last month, London Met police has revealed that Islamophobic attacks have increased by 70 percent in the past year, with veiled women becoming prime targets of such attacks.
