Brussels (IINA) – European Union’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini received here on Monday Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who briefed her on the latest developments on Palestine issue.
"The current situation in the Palestinian territories is extremely serious and grave," Abbas said at a news conference with Mogherini, adding that "it may even deteriorate, and that is my fear."
He said the outburst of violence may have generally been caused by the feeling of disappointment among the young generation of Palestinians who don't see any hope now for a better future or a possibility of two-state solution.
Abbas said another cause for the outburst of violence were killings and attacks on Palestinians being carried out on daily basis by armed West Bank settlers, protected by the Israeli forces.
He expressed serious concern over the extremely grave situation that could explode, due to Israel's failure to honor its commitment to maintaining the pre-August 2000 "status quo" at Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyards.
