Vienna (IINA) – Some 2,600 refugees, mostly Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans, entered the Austrian state of Styria, on Saturday and Sunday, across the border with Slovenia, Austria Press Agency (APA) reported.
Hundreds of migrants were diverted to Slovenia on Saturday in order to travel to Austria and Germany, after Hungary blocked a main transit route by closing its frontier with Croatia.
Some 260 asylum seekers were sheltered in the Red Cross tents at the Federal border crossing near the highway. All asylum applications were made available at the border crossing.
In another aspect, the Czech police said 7,200 refugees arrived in the country since the beginning of this year until the end of September. It was reported that the number of migrants who entered the Czech Republic in the same period a year earlier was 3,700 people.
Interior Minister Milan Chovanec said in an interview with a local TV station on Sunday that the conditions in the Czech foreigner detention facilities operated by the Interior Ministry correspond to the 21st-century level.
"The conditions in our country are much better than at the Keleti railway station in Hungary, and we still focus on human rights observance," he added.
