New York, (IINA) - The Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour called on the United Nations to lift the universal sanctions imposed on Sudan, saying that such sanctions are a hurdle that blocks any development and progress.
Addressing the UN Development Summit, Ghandour said: "The unilateral sanctions and procedures of coercive economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed on some developing countries including Sudan are disrupting the progress of achieving sustainable development goals and the eradication of poverty and hunger".
He added: “My country has met all the technical conditions relating to the initiative of debt cancellation for poor and heavily indebted countries as well as the initiative of multilateral debt relief, but nevertheless my country still continues to bear the burden of foreign debt”.
He wished that the Development Summit meeting would be the beginning of correcting the Sudanese situation and to the path of justice, equality, welfare and care for the poor, wishing that the work of the summit eradicates poverty and hunger, which are the greatest challenges facing humanity.
