Abuja, (IINA) - Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari hailed the World Health Organization’s (WHO) announcement that said polio is no longer an endemic in Nigeria. The Friday's announcement came after the country did not record any case of wild poliovirus since July 24, 2014, NAN reported.
President Buhari, who joined other Nigerians and the global community in celebrating Nigeria's removal from the list of polio-endemic countries, urged concerned parties to work on maintaining Nigeria’s new status.
Buhari applauded the concerted efforts of government officials, health workers, volunteer groups, civil society, religious leaders, traditional rulers and international partners, saying that such efforts resulted in this historic achievement.
He assured the WHO and the global community that the Federal government would ensure that immunization and surveillance activities will continue across Nigeria to keep the country polio-free.
