New York, (IINA) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in New York on Saturday to attend the 70th Session of the United Nations’ General Assembly where the Palestinian flag raising cermony at the UN headquarters will take place, WAFA reported.
Presidential spokesperson, Nabil Abu-Rudeineh, said that Abbas will meet with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, where they will discuss the latest developments in the region, particularly the latest Israeli escalations in Jerusalem, in additon to meeting other World leaders .
Abbas will also meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry to discuss the latest developments in the region and the world, including the political process with Israel.
It is noteworthy that on September 10, the UN overwhelmingly voted in favor of raising the Palestinian flag at its headquarters in New York in a symbolic move to which a Palestinian official said: “It’s a step towards the recognition of Palestine as a full member state of the United Nations”.
There were 119 votes out of 193 UN members in favor of raising the flag, 45 states did not vote, and only eight states were against raising the flag, out of which were the United States and Israel.
