Baku, Azerbaijan (IINA) - The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry stated on Saturday that the border clashes around Nagorno-Karabakh have caused the deaths of five soldiers, Anadolu Agency reported.
Azerbaijan vowed to retaliate against Armenian attacks with heavier weapons after an Azerbaijani soldier was killed and three wounded as an outcome of Armenian artillery strikes. The defense ministry said that four Armenian soldiers were killed and 16 wounded in response.
Clashes between the two sides started in 1988 when Armenia invaded the Azerbaijani territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, which later evolved into a full-fledged war in 1992.
It is noteworthy that a cease-fire was signed in 1994, nevertheless clashes regularly occur along the borders.
