Jeddah (IINA) - Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Muhammad bin Naif has called for higher vigilance and better preparedness to counterterrorism.
According to a statement on the Saudi Press Agency, he stressed the need to intensify preparedness and raise the level of caution in the face of any developments that, God forbid, may arise. The statement comes a few days after a suicide bomber wreaked havoc at a Special Emergency Forces Center Mosque in Asir killing five members of the force, six trainee soldiers and four Bangladeshi workers.
The man was identified on Saturday as 21-year-old Yousef bin Sulaiman Abdullah Al-Sulaiman. Local reports said the Saudi national was arrested two years ago on charges of harboring deviant thoughts.
Chairing a meeting of the heads of the security agencies in Jeddah on Saturday, Prince Mohammed conveyed the condolences of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to the families of the 15 martyrs. “This (the suicide bombing) will not weaken our resolve in standing up to the enemies of the nation,” he said. During the meeting, he reviewed security plans for the upcoming Haj season in Makkah, Madinah and the holy sites.
The US National Security Council condemned the deadly terror strikes in Saudi Arabia and Mali, and offered condolences to both nations over the loss of life. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and wish for the speedy recovery of the wounded. We express solidarity with the governments whose citizens were among the victims,” said National Security Council spokesperson Ned Price. “The United States strongly condemns the recent deplorable terrorist attacks in Mali and Saudi Arabia,” said the spokesperson.
