OIC to hold a meeting on countering terrorism

Jeddah, (IINA) - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is to hold Tomorrow Tuesday, a high level meeting to further strengthen, solidify and coordinate the efforts of its various institutions in countering extreme violence, sectarianism, terrorism and Islamophobia.
According to a statement issued by the organization, the meeting is expected to focus on the multitude and various dimensions of OIC's strategy including the root causes of terrorism and violent extremism, how to delegitimizing the ideological discourse of terrorist organizations, ways of inspiring young Muslims to become the driving force against terrorism, cyber and social media and countering Islamophobic voices and to coordinate more fully the work of OIC's institutions in light of OIC's charter, conventions and resolutions.
For his part, OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani is scheduled to deliver a speech at the meeting, along with statements by the heads of the OIC’s various institutions in relation to their activities in this regard.
It is noteworthy that the OIC has been committed to countering violent extremism for over 20 years.
OIC's commitment has also been expressed in various resolutions adopted by summits and council of foreign ministers meetings. Most recently in Kuwait and Jeddah, where brainstorming sessions were also held at a ministerial level as part of the foreign ministers meetings held there in 2014 and 2015.
