Obesity in GCC states (Google image)
Riyadh (IINA) – Saudi Arabia will host the World Conference for Confronting Obesity and Diabetes in the Gulf States, scheduled to take place in October under the auspices of Minister of Health Eng. Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Faleh, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The conference, to be held under the slogan "Partnership for Change", will deal with the latest scientific findings in the treatment of obesity and diabetes, besides the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in confronting diabetes and obesity.
Populations in the GCC countries were named among the world's most obese. They have some of the highest rates of lifestyle diseases in the world, with the International Diabetes Foundation forecasting that about 20 percent of the population is afflicted by the disease, according to a United Nations report published in 2013 by Arabian Business online.
