Irish Muslims celebrate Eid al Fitr

Dublin, (IINA) - Hundreds of Irish Muslims thronged Dublin to celebrate `Eid al-Fitr with prayers and various traditional festivities and gatherings, marking the end of the holy fasting month, OnIslam reported.

About 400 Muslims from the South Circular Road Mosque and elsewhere in Dublin gathered at Crumlin’s Transport Club on Saturday, to celebrate `Eid Al-Fitr.
Saturday celebration was attended by various local politicians and other invited guests.
Celebrating the traditional festival, local Muslims held a special morning prayer and exchanged gifts during the festival.
Muslims make up 1.1 percent of the 4.5 million people in Ireland, but their ranks are swelling due to immigration, domestic births, and in some cases conversion.
A 2011 census recorded 49,204 Muslims, including nearly 12,000 school-aged children. The numbers represent a 51 percent increase since 2006.
The public acceptance has also helped Muslims to easily integrate into Irish society.
Around the globe, Muslims observe Ramadan with a set of traditional rituals including family gathering at Iftar, delivering religious lessons, special evening prayers and helping the poor with charity.
