Paris (IINA) – A French public prosecutor on Tuesday requested to dismiss the case surrounding the death of former Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, allegedly assassinated by poisoning.
The prosecutor’s office considered that "it is not possible to establish sufficient charges against anyone”. No one in particular had been targeted in the probe.
Arafat died on 11 November 2004 at the age of 75 in a Paris military hospital after a rapid deterioration in his health.
The three French judges were ordered to look into the cause of his death since August 2012 following a lawsuit filed by Suha Arafat, widow of the late Palestinian leader, against unknown after she found traces of radioactive polonium-210 on the personal effects of her husband.
Arafat's grave was opened in November 2012, and about 60 samples were taken from his remains and sent for analysis to three teams of experts in Switzerland, France and Russia.
The experts assigned by the French judges discounted the possibility of poisoning for two times, the latest was in last March. However, the Swiss experts, who acted at the request of Arafat's widow, considered that the possibility of poisoning is "more consistent" with the findings they reached.
