Abuja (IINA) – Nine people were killed on Monday in a suicide bomb attack targeted a checkpoint on a road between Damaturu, the capital of Nigeria’s Yobe state and Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, news agencies reported.
Security source said that the explosives detonated as security officials approached a car with a male driver and two female passengers.
The victims included three policemen and three motorists, along with the attackers. Two more security personnel are currently at the Damaturu Specialist Hospital receiving treatment, according to the source.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack that bore the hallmarks of extremist Boko Haram group, which has a history of attacking military and civilian targets.
Monday’s suicide bomb attack came three days after twin bomb blast killed 15 people in Damaturu during Eid al-Fitr celebration.
