Beirut, (IINA) - Lebanese Cabinet’s secretariat received the draft protocol to establish a region-wide military force aimed at combating extremists, including ISIS, the Lebanese Daily Star reported quoting ministerial sources.
The sources said that the document was received last week and was awaiting feedback and remarks from the Lebanese government on it.
Army Commander General Jean Kahwagi attended two meetings alongside other Arab military chiefs in Cairo earlier this year to draw up the draft protocol agreement.
Prior to the Cairo meetings, the Lebanese government had received a letter proposing Lebanon’s participation in the joint Arab force, the sources said.
The letter also included a “broad” outline of the proposed role and mission for Lebanon in the region-wide force to combat terrorism, they added.
Cabinet is expected to accept, amend or reject the protocol agreement prior to June 15th deadline for the evaluation period.
After the evaluation period is over, remarks made by proposed participants in the coalition would be sent to Cairo for assessment.
