Amman, (IINA) - Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Monday met a delegation of members of the "Climate Parliament", an international network of legislators from many countries dedicated to promoting renewable energy use and combating climate change, Petra reported.
The delegation, which included Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Tunisian MP Dhamir Mannai and the Parliament's Executive Director Sanjay Kumar, gave a briefing about its role in supporting national and regional initiatives to accelerate the transition to renewable energy.
During the meeting, Mannai and Kumar praised Jordan's efforts in relying on renewable energy sources as it is a "pioneer" in adopting laws and regulations governing renewable energy and those related to the "green economy."
They noted that the Climate Parliament vision is summed up in promoting complementary energy exchanges between countries generated from renewable sources like the sun, stressing that Jordan, where the sun shines for about 300 days, could be a starting point between Arab countries in that area.
For his part, Ensour confirmed Jordan's support for this approach, which is consistent with its policy and plans to diversify its energy sources and rely on renewable energy sources in the total energy mix.
