OIC chief hails political declaration on confronting violent extremism

Tuesday 05 May 2015 - 11:28 Makkah mean time-16-7-1436 OIC chief Iyad Madani New York (IINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani on Monday hailed the political declaration on strengthening the partnership between the United Nations and regional organizations to combat terrorism and extremism. Madani stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of terrorism and formulating the necessary discourse to meet the challenge of violent extremism, noting that the possibility of third parties involvement in fanning extremism should be discussed. The OIC Secretary General made the remarks in a speech at a high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on Monday on the promotion of cooperation between the United Nations and regional and sub-regional organizations.
