Rabat (IINA) – Foreign ministers of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) expressed on Thursday "deep" concern over the latest developments in Libya, calling the Libyan political parties to speed up the formation of a national unity government, Algeria Press Service reported.
Wrapping up the 33rd session of their meeting in the Moroccan capital Rabat on Thursday, the AMU foreign ministers issued a final communiqué, calling on various Libyan parties to "engage in an inclusive dialogue to form a national unity government able to eradicate terrorism, establish security and control Libya's borders with neighboring countries.”
The Maghreb Ministerial Council underlined support to the efforts of UN Special envoy to Libya Bernardino León, praising, at the same time, all parties for engagement in dialogue, with the aim of bringing about a peaceful solution to the Libyan crisis.
The Arab Maghreb Union is a trade agreement aiming for an economic and future political unity among Arab countries of the Maghreb in North Africa. It includes five states in its membership, namely: Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. The idea for an economic union of the Maghreb began with the independence of Tunisia and Morocco in 1956.
