Arab Forum on combating commercial fraud, protecting intellectual property rights opened in Riyadh

Riyadh (IINA) – Saudi Minister of Finance Dr Ibrahim Al-Assaf opened here on Tuesday the 4th Arab Forum on Combating Commercial Fraud and Counterfeiting and Protecting Intellectual Property Rights, and its accompanying exhibition, which lasts for three days, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
In his speech at the opening of the forum, Dr Al-Assaf confirmed that the forum is an extension of the efforts of the government of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, noting that the objectives of the forum include protecting the rights of the trade parties of consumers and producers, in addition to the transparent relationship between them.
Al-Assaf highlighted the reasons of commercial fraud and counterfeiting and their negative effects on the economy, pointing out that this phenomenon has serious effects on the consumer health and safety.
In his speech to the forum, Saudi Minister of Commerce Dr Tawfiq Al-Rabiah stressed the importance of combating commercial fraud and counterfeiting, and protecting intellectual property. He said that combating this serious phenomenon aims at protecting consumers, producers and merchants.
Among those who spoke at the forum, Saleh Al-Khilewi, the Director General of Customs and  Kunio Mikuriya, the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), who praised the contributions made by Saudi Arabia and its prominent role in combating commercial fraud and counterfeiting and protecting intellectual property rights by raising consumer awareness of this dangerous phenomenon.
