New York (IINA) – French Ambassador at United Nations François Delattre said that peace in the Middle East would not be achieved without the establishment of a Palestinian state.
“It’s the responsibility of this council to adopt a consensual and balanced resolution that sets the parameters of a final status and a timeline for the negotiations,” Delattre said at a Security Council meeting.
"We are convinced more than ever that there is no alternative to the establishment of a Palestinian state, and this is in everyone's best interest and in the interest of peace, so it is essential that the Security Council to shoulder its responsibilities," he added.
The French ambassador said that the continuation of illegal settlements undermines day-to-day, the viability of a Palestinian state on the ground. He stated that the political vacuum will feed the risk of explosion, stressing the need for the commitment of all to the two-state solution.
