Tunis, (IINA) - Tunisia has become a member of the Development Centre of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

A letter of official acceptance for the centre was handed on Tuesday by Secretary-General of the Organization Angel Gurria to the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Ezzine Chlaifa.

Quoted in a foreign ministry press release, Gurria stressed the importance of this membership, which, he noted, will help strengthen the relations of partnership and co-operation between Tunisia and the OECD.

He welcomed at his meeting with the Secretary of State the success of Tunisia's democratic transition, reiterating OECD's commitment to supporting development efforts in the country, in line with the national priorities.

He also emphasized the concern to support the Tunisian experience and create all conditions for its success at the economic and development levels.

Ezzine Chlaifa underlined Tunisia's commitment to strengthening its relations of co-operation with the OECD.

He expressed hope to see this visit give fresh impetus to these relations likely to help meet the development challenges faced by Tunisia in this stage, particularly the least developed regions
