Executive Office of Arab Health Ministers Council convenes in Cairo

Thursday 26 Feb 2015 - 12:03 Makkah mean time-7-5-1436 Executive Office of Arab Health Ministers Council meeting (Photo: KUNA) Cairo (IINA) – The Executive Office of the Arab Health Ministers Council convened here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Kuwait's Health Minister Dr. Ali Saad Al-Obaidi, KUNA reported. In his opening speech, Al-Obaidi underscored the significance of the topics to be discussed during the meeting, especially those aiming to develop and support Arab common action. He said the gathering will discuss the activities of the Arab Health Ministers Council's secretariat and the health situation in Palestine, as well as the preparations for an Arab economic, social and development summit, scheduled to be held in Tunisia later this year. Al-Obaidi noted that Arab integration in the fields of medicine, fighting HIV/AIDS, and efforts to combat Ebola virus are also among the agenda of the meeting. The Executive Office is expected to present a report on the implementation of the resolutions taken in the council's last meeting. The meeting will also review a number of issues listed on the agenda of the 43rd session of the Arab Health Ministers Council, slated for Thursday under the chairmanship of Morocco. Among the meeting participants are health ministers of Egypt and Qatar, as well as representatives of health ministers of Palestine, Oman, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco and Somalia. In a related context, the Arab Fund for Health Development convened here on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the Executive Office meeting, to discuss the budget and projects carried out in some Arab countries. The council's discretionary budget totaling $ 1 billion was ratified during the meeting. AB/IINA
