Haikou (IINA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak arrived Friday in Haikou, the capital city of the Chinese Hainan province, to attend the Boao Forum for Asia 2015 (BFA), BERNAMA reported.

Najib and his accompanying delegation will depart Haikou to Boao, about 72 km away, to participate in the four-day event which hosts high-level leaders from governments, business and academia in Asia and other continents to share their vision on the most pressing regional and international issues.

Najib, who is also the finance minister of Malaysia, is scheduled to deliver a speech during the Opening Plenary Session of BFA on Saturday. The session would be officiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

This year's BFA, being held under the theme “Asia's New Future: Towards a Community of Common Destiny”, will discuss topics related to macro-economy, industrial transformation, regional development and technological innovation, in addition to political and security issues.

Najib's visit augurs well for Malaysian-Chinese relations as it will provide the opportunity to strengthen the bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries. It will also serve as a platform to highlight ASEAN's future direction and agenda, as well as Malaysia's priorities for the regional grouping as the chairman of ASEAN 2015.

This is Najib's fifth visit to China as the prime minister but his first appearance at the forum, which is modelled after the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
