Bangui (IINA) – The Anti-balaka militia has continued its persecution of Muslims and destruction of mosques in Central African Republic (CAR), despite their attempts to flee their homes.

Since September 2013, the Christian militia Anti-balaka has continued to perpetrate heinous crimes against Muslims in CAR, including children, women and elderly – what Amnesty International has described as "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide."

According to Amnesty’s reports, the number of displaced people exceeded one million, and the number of refugees living in camps stood at 100,000 people.

Some 417 mosques out of CAR’s 436 mosques were destroyed by the militiamen, who were trying to expel Muslims out of the country.

It is difficult now to estimate the number of Muslims, who made up 10 percent of the country’s total population in 2013.
