Rabat (IINA) – Fifty young French imams will be trained annually in Morocco, the Union of Mosques in France (UMF) announced on Friday, Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP) reported.

The Union obtained in July last year the approval of Moroccan King Mohammed VI to the request of receiving 50 French students yearly for a three-year training in Morocco, said a UMF statement.

The first batch, which includes 20 students from the different French regions, is already in the Morocco. An additional 28 students will join them in September, said the UMF, while expressing its gratitude to King Mohammed VI, who took care of such training that offers an invaluable opportunity to Muslims in France.

Several mosques have contacted the UMF to employ French imams, prompting the Union to enter into a partnership with the Moroccan Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ministry to help these Frenchmen get a theological training at the Mohammed VI Institute for Imams, Murshidin and Murshidat Training in Rabat, the statement added.
