Jeddah (IINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani welcomed the adoption of a resolution by the European Parliament that supports recognition of Palestinian State.

Madani commended the EU resolution, which backs the two-state solution, as it would support the rights of the Palestinian people and contribute to enhancing international efforts aiming to put an end to the Israeli occupation and to establish the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also hailed the adoption of a resolution by Luxembourg Parliament, calling for the government to recognize the state of Palestine. He stressed that these historic positions go hand in hand with the resolutions of international legitimacy.

The Secretary General expressed his hope that these significant resolutions would be catalysts for the governments to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and recognize the Palestine statehood. Meanwhile, he reiterated the OIC’s support for the decision of the State of Palestine to seek a UN Security Council resolution to set a timeline for ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territory.
