GCC chief Dr Abdul Latif Al Zayani
Riyadh (IINA) – Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani condemned Friday's attack which targeted the office of the Saudi-owned pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat in Beirut, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
In a statement issued Saturday, Dr Al Zayani described the attack as a cowardly act that violates the media freedom, guaranteed by the international laws.
"This cowardly assault does not reflect the stances of the Lebanese people who understand and realize the crucial role of Asharq Al-Awsat in supporting Lebanon on the media level," he said.
He underlined the stance of the newspaper in supporting the efforts of the government to maintain the security and stability of Lebanon and achieve its people's aspirations to freedom, dignity and development.
The GCC chief expressed his confidence in the ability of the Lebanese security authorities to unveil the circumstances of the criminal act, arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
