Signing of Darfur dialogue deal with UN will enhance peace

Qatari Ambassador to Sudan Rashid Al Naimi (SUNA)

Khartoum (IINA) – Qatari Ambassador to Sudan Rashid Bin Abdul Rahman Al Naimi said the signing of Darfur Dialogue and Consultation Agreement between the Sudanese government and the United Nations comes within the efforts seeking to cement the pillars of peace, stability and development in Darfur, based on the Doha Peace accord, SUNA reported.
Naimi said the importance of this agreement stems from the fact that the beneficiaries will be the local communities, the civil society organizations and the native administration in Darfur.
He said it would therefore increase the chances for the success of the Doha Peace Accord and that this was one of the reasons, his country, Qatar, was keen to provide all the needed assistance for the success of the Darfur-Darfur dialogue.
The Qatari envoy pointed to the various development and rehabilitation projects implemented by Qatar, including the first phase of the development initiative launched by his country.
Naimi stated that this phase involved the construction of five model villages in a number of Darfur localities, with the view to encourage people to return to their home areas voluntarily. He said the second phase would also see the construction of similar number of villages.
He said a $50-million project will also be implemented for the nomads in Darfur, where some 300 wells will be drilled in the area as well as other development and service projects, pointing to the ongoing efforts to establish the Darfur Development Bank.
