Manila (IINA) – Saudi Embassy to the Philippines announced here on Tuesday that famous Saudi scholar Sheikh Ayed bin Abdullah al-Qarni, suffered a gunshot wound, during a visit to Zamboanga, a city in Mindanao, Philippines, as he gave a lecture there.
One of the criminals fired several shots at the car commuting al-Qarni, injuring in the arm and was immediately rushed to a hospital in Zamboanga, Al Ekhbariya reported.
According to a statement by the embassy, Dr al-Qarni was on a visit to the Philippines, at a personal invitation from a religious association in Zamboanga.
The embassy immediately started following up, in coordination with the Philippine competent authorities, the investigation into the incident, and also sent a private jet to transport al-Qarni and his entourage to the capital Manila, to complete medical check-ups.
During a telephone conversation, the Saudi Ambassador to the Philippines was reassured of al-Qarni's good health. Thankfully, none of his entourage suffered injuries, the statement said.
The embassy is pursuing the course of investigations with the Philippine authorities to determine the circumstances of the incident, noting that security authorities exchanged fire with the criminal and shot him dead.
