OIC-Russian committee discusses ways to boost bilateral relations

Moscow (IINA) – The Political Consultations Committee of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Russian Federation held a meeting here recently, co-chaired by Ambassador Abdurahman Alim, OIC assistant secretary-general for political affairs, and Ambassador Konstantin Shuvalov, special representative of the Russian foreign ministry for cooperation with the alliance of civilizations.
The two sides reviewed the bilateral relations between the OIC and Russia in all fields. They underscored the importance of strengthening the relations and diversifying their spheres as well as encouraging participation in economic conferences and forums organized by both sides.
They exchanged views on developments related to several regional and international issues, chiefly the Palestinian question, the situation in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan and Yemen, besides the conflicts in Africa and how to combat terrorism and extremism.
Both sides also reviewed the situation of Muslim minorities in Russia and the world. They recalled each other’s positions on these issues and emphasized the importance of coordination and consultation in support of international efforts to enthrone peace, stability and development in the world.
On a related note, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, received at the headquarters of Russia's Foreign Ministry on March 15 a delegation from the OIC General Secretariat, who participated in the consultations. The meeting discussed ways to boost bilateral relations between the OIC and Russia in all areas of cooperation.
