Kuala Lumpur (IINA) – Malaysia's Deputy Foreign Minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican has said there is a need to form an international peacekeeping force to resolve the Palestine-Israel conflict as negotiations between the two sides have reached an impasse, BERNAMA reported.
He said the conflict which had gone on for seven decades was a complex one and continued to cost the lives of thousands of Palestinians.
"There is a need to have an international peacekeeping force for international action to take place. The international community must get involved to realize its establishment,” Reezal Merican said.
"For as long as there is no international involvement and sincere commitment, the conflict will not be resolved and the Palestinians will continue to suffer," he added.
Reezal Merican made the remarks after the handing over of 113,096.25 Malaysian ringgits in humanitarian aid for Palestinians to lessen their burden, by Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (ANGKASA) to the Foreign Ministry at Parliament building, here on Monday.
It was handed over to him by ANGKASA President Abdul Fattah Abdullah. The sum was contributed by various cooperatives from throughout the country as well as ANGKASA staff to the Palestine Humanitarian Fund.
On the contribution from ANGKASA, Reezal said it did not stop there as the government would ensure continued assistance for the Palestinians.
"All the non-governmental organizations care for the plight of the Palestinians and I see this as a manifestation of the people of Malaysia who regard the Palestinian issue as one that is close to their hearts," he said.
