UAE sends 1,000 tons of food to Somalia in response to drought

Mogadishu, (IINA) - A UAE relief ship, loaded with 1,060 tons of food supplies, has reached the Somali Port of Berbera on Sunday, WAM reported.
The contents of the ship, which were sent by the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Foundation, will be distributed to people in three provinces affected by the drought that struck most regions in Somalia.
A spokesman for the Khalifa Foundation said that a team from the organization will oversee the distribution of food parcels to 8,000 families in the provinces and neighboring villages.
The packages, which contain diet staples such as rice, sugar, flour, dates, and milk powder, will assist recipients to endure the hardships caused by the drought that has plagued their land and harmed farms and livestock.
