Italian student's killers shot dead in Egypt

Cairo, (IINA) - Egypt stated on Thursday that all four members of a criminal gang suspected of involvement in the murder of Italian doctoral student Giulio Regeni were killed in an exchange of fire with Egyptian police, DPA reported.
Regeni's brutal death in Egypt last month sparked a global outcry. The Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement that the gang's four members were killed Thursday on the outskirts of Cairo.
The personal belongings of the 28-year-old Italian man, including an Italian flag, his passport, credit card one two mobile phones, were later found in an apartment of one suspect's sister in the city of Qaliubia.
The gang is suspected of posing as police officers to abduct and rob foreigners. Regeni's body was found on a highway outside Cairo on February 3, more than a week after he went missing.
There was no official comment from Rome.
